SAARC FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE- 2010


THE FOUNDATION OF SAARC WRITERS AND LITERATURE in collaboration with Indian Council of Cultural Relations organized 33rd SAARC Festival at India International Centre, New Delhi from 26th – 28th March-2010 under the dynamic leadership of Ajit Caur and her Artist daughter Arpana Caur.In this festival Writers and Intellectuals, artists and environmentalists, academicians and media persons, performing and visual artists, folklorists and historians participated with zeal n zest from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri lanka .

Dr Karan Singh Inaugurated the Festival .Abid Hussian, Gulzar, Sita Kant Mhahapatra, Jayanta Mahapatra, Ashok Vajpai, Kuwar Narain, Baba Sewa Singh, Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, Indra Goswami, K Sachidanandan, J P Dass, Surjit Patar, Jayabala Vaidya, Jasbir Jain,, Renuka Singh, Manmohan Singh Mitwa, Taranum Riaz, Paul Kaur, J Bhagayalaxmi, Arvinder Kaur Sukhwinder Amrit and Swarnjit Savi from India . North East & Northern Poetry Festival, Ludhiana

Recently Sahitya Akademi New Delhi and Shabdalok organised a

North East and Northern Poetry Festival

at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.

Dr. Sutinder Singh Noor, Surjit Patar,Dr. Manjit Singh Kang and Amarjit Singh Grewal Inaugurated the festival by Lighting the lamp.

Poets from north east including Bengal and North participated and presented their poems into their language and the Punjabi Translations were presented by Punjabi poets . Long list of poets is Amarjit Ghumman (Punjabi) , Mandakranta Sen (Bengali) , Swarnjit Savi (Punjabi) , S.D. Dhaka (Nepali) , Malchand Tiwari (Rajasthani) , Naseem Shafai (Kashmiri), R.L. Thanmawia (Mizo) , Shymal Kanti Das (Bengali) , Nee1am Sethi (Hindi) , Parminder Jeet (Punjabi) , Mohan Sapra (Hindi), JaswantDeed (Punjabi), Sebanti Ghosh (Bengali) , Sylvanus Lamare (Khasi) , Sushil Beganna (Dogri) Nirupama Dutt (English), Manmohan (Punjabi), Makhan Kalita (Assamese), Madhav Kaushik (Hindi), Sardar Panchhi (Urdu), Darshan Buttar (Punjabi), Koijam Santibala Devi (Manipuri), Pankaj Saha (Bengali) , Harvinder Kaur (Hindi), Sukhvinder Amrit (Punjabi) and translations were done into punjabi by Surjit Patar, Swarnjit savi, Jagdish Kaur, Sukhwinder Amrit, Gurshminder Singh Jagpal and Jaswant Zafar.

Research papers on different poetry were presented by Prabal Kumar Basil- Bengali Poetry Today, Sukhdev Singh-Punjabi Poetry Today, Pradip Acharya-North-East Poetry Today, Tejinder Kaur - Northern Poetry Today.

It was a wonderful experience again. I share with you some moments of this two day festival

Navdeep Sihra’s first poetry book “In Red Deeps” released

Navdeep Sihra’s first poetry book “In Red Deeps” was released here on the occasion of “North east and Nothern Poetry festival,PAU’ by Dr.S.S. Noor, vice –President of Delhi Sahitya Academy. Mr. M. S. Kang,Vice – Chancellor of PAU was the Guest of Honor. Other dignitaries were S.Amarjit Grewal (Adviser,World Punjabi center, Patiala), Surjit Patar (recipient of saraswati Award), Swarnjit Savi (poet and painter ),Dr. Deepak Manmohan Singh,Mr. Ram Kumar Makhopadhyay, And Mrs.Renu Bhan.

Mandakranta Sen,a famous poet from Kolkata, highly appreciated the poems. Mr.Bhupinder Parihar, in the foreward,called Sihra’s poems “a pace setting Poetic Achievement”. Prof . Rajinder Singh (HoD Dept of English, SCD Govt College), wrote that there emerges in Navdeep’s Poems a poetic purpose which transcends her age and rises to the height of deeply felt experience.
